“As Old As The Rocks”
On my second visit to the Festival of the Fires on the ancient, and sacred, Hill of Uisneach, was when I was invited to speak on the Brehon Laws in 2015.
To my knowledge, this was the first talk on the Brehon Law to happen on the Hill, during the gathering of Beltaine for Fire Festival, was the first to have happened in over 1500 years.
It was one of the proudest moments of my journey with The Brehon Academy.
On this day I learned that long ago a branch of the Flanagan clan was once lords at Uisneach.
Now, I have no idea if I am descended from the same clan, but a nice thought nonetheless.
It was still my honour to know that after 1,500 years, I was standing on the ancient Hill of Uisneach and that sacred site heard talk of her old laws once more.
In this talk, I introduce the audience to the essence of the Brehon law weaving in myth and storytelling, and their demise while pointing to their possible relevance today.
