Women, Work and Status
In this video lesson, we will examine how women’s status in early Irish society was determined and how it compared to that of men.
Despite the clear distinction between the roles of men and women in normal household and social life, women were not excluded from working and could be found in high-ranking positions across all professions.
A woman’s level of education and professional-grade impacted her social status, and she could even hold a higher professional grade than her husband.
