In Memoriam: Reflecting on the Life and Legacy of Manchán Magan – A Tribute Through Community Voices

Join us in this heartfelt episode as we reflect on the extraordinary life of Manchán Magan, the beloved Irish writer, broadcaster, and documentary maker who passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 55 after a brave battle with prostate cancer.

Born on August 20, 1970, Manchán was a true guardian of Ireland’s cultural soul—a “gatherer of light” who dedicated his life to reviving the Gaelic language, exploring the deep connections between folklore, landscape, and identity.

From his early travels across the globe, including transformative experiences in India and Africa that shaped his worldview, to his acclaimed books like “Listen to the Land Speak” and “Thirty-Two Words for Field,Manchán brought ancient wisdom into the modern era through his podcasts, TV series on TG4, and passionate advocacy for environmental and linguistic revival.

He married his partner of 11 years, Aisling Rogerson, in the weeks before his passing, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations to listen more deeply to the stories embedded in our words and the earth itself.

With the recent passing of Manchán, I decided to invite others to share their words of reflection and remembrance.

There were no right or wrong answers, just words of remembrance.

The following prompt was posted across YouTube (posts), Facebook, and Instagram:

Over 500 responses came in.

In this episode, I spend some time reading a few of these comments and announce the winner at the end.

Through these shared memories, we celebrate Manchán’s enduring impact—his curiosity that bridged worlds, his passion for the Irish language that sparked revivals, and his gentle reminders to connect with our roots.

Whether through his global adventures or his intimate explorations of Ireland’s myths and landscapes, Manchán taught us to see the magic in the everyday.

Rest in peace, Manchán—your light continues to guide us.
